Travis Brow link was the largest individual project released under the TfGM funded £73m Town Centre Access Programme (TCAP). Linking Travis Brow with the A6 Wellington Road through the Grade 2 listed Stockport Viaduct, which carries the West Coast main line rail service. The project was a fundamental part of the TCAP Master plan.
Due to the size of the project the main contract was procured as a design and build contract via the Highways England Framework. Graham’s Construction approach us to partner them in their price / quality submission.
Under successful award of the contract to Graham’s we were engaged by them to undertake all civil works relating to the highway works, which included: -
- 2 new major traffic-controlled junctions.
- 2 re-configured traffic-controlled junctions.
- New carriageway and footway.
- Reconstruction / widening of carriageway and footway
- Highway drainage and attenuation.
- Cycleways.
- Car park construction.
- Sett paved carriageway.
- Deterrent paving.
Close and detailed liaison with Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council traffic and highways was required throughout the scheme due to the multiple traffic sensitive locations being worked on simultaneously. Our delivery team embedded themselves with the Graham’s team, working closely on design and value engineering aspects of the scheme.
In April 2019, the project was awarded the CIHT Northwest Project of the Year.
