The Fishpool and Pimhole project has been developed to improve connectivity to Bury town centre and other local facilities, making it safer and easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle for local journeys.
This will allow people to reduce car trips and choose healthier, greener ways to travel.
Works commenced in November 2025 and are planned to be completed within 52 weeks. Due to the nature of the works and proximity to the town centre, businesses, schools, colleges, and university centre the works have been carefully planned and phased to minimise as much as possible disruption to pedestrians and road users, whilst still maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. This involves phasing works around school holidays, off peak working and night time works as required
The project involves junction upgrades and improvements to 12 areas around Fishpool and Pimhole:
- Gigg Lane/Market Street junction
- Gigg Lane/Alfred Street junction
- Gigg Lane/Manchester Road junction
- Albert Street – Completed

- Rochdale Road/Heywood Street/Bond Street junction
- Market Street
- Roch Valley Greenway
