Permanent (subject to successful completion of a 3-month probationary period)

Working Hours: 

47.5 hours per week

Monday – Friday: 07:00 – 17:00 (30 min unpaid lunch break)

We are a specialist civil engineering and highways contractor serving local and transport authorities throughout the North West of England. The business provides a wide range of civil engineering and highway construction services, utilising its highly skilled internal workforce and a network of subcontractors. Its area of expertise lies in executing intricate and challenging projects, including but not limited to drainage schemes, intersection enhancements, and public infrastructure development.

The majority of our income, approximately 80%, is generated from extended framework contracts with local Northwest authorities, which typically span from 4 to 10 years. In addition, the company also serves House Builders and Tier 1 Contractors, carrying out S278 and S38 works on their behalf.

We thrive by working with our clients from early inception of the project to provide cost effective solutions. Additionally, we assist clients in preparing funding bids and provide initiatives in community engagement and methods of delivery. Our Social and Environmental responsibility track record is exceptionally strong, surpassing our competitors on Quality Bids and Social Value Matrices. Our Clear Management controls and structure ensure efficiency, and as partners of Framework contracts, we have a sizable forward order book extending over four years.

Our projects are solely located within the North West of England, with most of our schemes within Greater Manchester or the neighbouring areas.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Open and close the yard. Opening – inspect the area to ensure it is safe and secure, deactivate alarms and unlock the premises. Closing – Ensuring all company property is locked and secure and all alarm and monitoring systems are activated.
  • Provide and maintain accurate records, both paper and electronic, for all materials, plant and equipment brought into and taken out of the yard.
  • Comply with all statutory legislation for the safe storage, handling and disposal of materials.
  • Maintain optimum stocks of equipment and materials required to operate sites effectively at all times.
  • Management of stock levels and distribution of PPE equipment to all employees and sub-contractors, ensuring accurate up to date records are maintained at all time.
  • Be responsible for loading and unloading, either by hand or forklift, fuelling, and localised movement of vehicles within the yard.
  • Ensure all vehicles including welfare units are cleaned, emptied of effluent (where necessary), are well maintained and fully stocked with Health, Safety and Welfare materials and equipment on a daily basis.
  • Collect and/or deliver materials and documents as required by the management of the company.
  • Assist with the implementation of the company’s Quality Management and Environmental procedures.
  • Policing of the yard safety rules and ensuring all operatives leave for site on time.
  • Reporting to Senior Management any breaches of Health & Safety or company rules.
  • Be a registered First Aider.
  • Attend all necessary training courses in fire safety and assume role of Fire Marshall.
  • Undertake minor structural repairs and maintenance to the yard and buildings.
  • Monitor and respond to all electronic correspondence (e-mails, etc.) and ensuring you have basic computer literacy skills.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are reversed into parking bays.
  • Report any faults to plant and vehicles to head office.
  • Co-ordinate with site to get plant vehicles back for repair.
  • Provide cover for Bredbury yard as and when necessary.

Candidate Requirements
