Works commenced in August 2025 on a seven-week programme to upgrade two existing four-way traffic junctions along the A56 in Altrincham.
The junctions being improved are:
-
A56 / Barrington Road
-
A56 / Sinderland Road
The scheme will deliver upgraded traffic signals and brand-new controlled pedestrian crossing facilities on all four arms of each junction, improving both safety and connectivity for all road users.
During the first four weeks, road closures were in place on Barrington Road and Sinderland Road. All programmed works within this period were successfully completed, allowing both roads to reopen on schedule. These works included:
-
New kerbing and footpath adaptations
-
Installation of new drainage
-
UTC ducting installation
-
Footpath binder course surfacing
The project is now entering week six and remains on programme for completion at the end of week seven, with George Cox works concluding on 19 September 2025.
In the final two weeks, activities will focus on:
-
Carriageway resurfacing
-
Footpath resurfacing
-
New road markings
-
Loop cutting at both junctions
Following handover, Yunex will complete the installation and commissioning of the new traffic signals, with an anticipated completion date of 25 September 2025.
